BSO KS4 Set Works Live 2024

SOLD OUT! BSO KS4 Set Works Live events in Plymouth and Uffculme have now sold out.

In this special event for GCSE and BTEC music students and teachers from Devon and Torbay secondary schools, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) perform pieces from the current GCSE syllabus, as well as a live composition based on your ideas. Presented by BSO Associate Musician Patrick Bailey, KS4 Set Works Live concerts trace the development of music from the baroque period to the present day, supporting the music education of all KS4 music students.

The development of instruments and tastes is used as a narrative hook, allowing students to understand why styles vary from genre to genre, from harpsichord in Bach to musical theatre. The event also includes access to a private online page featuring digital learning resources available until the end of the academic year to support study.

Programme
The programme will include some pieces that are on the GCSE syllabus and we can choose which are included – therefore, if you have a particular preference (one from each block – A, B, C etc.), please let us know when booking.

Designed with KS2 students in mind, the thrilling and interactive concerts will be presented by award-winning composer and conductor, James Redwood.  Explore the Orchestra: Dance, Dance, Dance! will showcase the orchestral families, while exploring brilliant examples of how musicians and composers have stretched the boundaries of music. As well as pieces from the world of ballet and some orchestral classics, all the music has been specially chosen to get you moving and James will lead students in his newly composed song.

The concerts are completely free of charge. The concert running time is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

If the concerts are shown as sold out; please click here to add your school to the waiting list.

James will be leading a FREE CPD session for a teacher from every school attending the concert to teach you the music and words for the participatory items, as well as giving ideas for other ways you can prepare for the concert. The CPD session will be held on Monday 13 November, 4.15 – 6pm at Cullompton Community Centre EX15 1JX.
