I have been teaching music in students homes since 2018, and in schools across London since 2022. During this time, I have worked with children of all ages from as young as three up to secondary school age, on a one-to-one basis and occasionally in pairs or small groups. I have helped several students through their ABRSM and Trinity practical and theory exams. I teach in line with Kodaly, and put a lot of time into devising lesson activities/teaching resources suited to the age/needs of the students, which is always developing as I gain more experience. My goal with teaching is to ensure students develop into well-rounded musicians, build confidence and a love of music. The main areas of learning which form the basis of my lesson plans are developing musicality/musical ear/musical memory, healthy technique/expression, and reading from notation/music theory. For young beginners especially, singing and movement is a main focus of my lessons – I always encourage children to sing and learn songs by ear before transferring what we’ve learned to the instrument. I have tried and tested many beginner method books, and am currently using the Piano Adventures method books to provide a structure for learning alongside my own resources. I am keen to learn from other teachers/share resources and knowledge. Outside of teaching, I have also been employed as a nanny, I love to paint/knit/read and I really enjoy the opportunity for creativity that teaching children offers.
